Maternity Care

Maternity care is offered by all the doctors, sharing the care with the midwife, Maternity Unit at Helme Chase Unit in Kendal, and the Royal Lancaster Infirmary. A community midwife attached to the Practice, is employed by the Morecambe Bay Hospitals NHS Trust. She is also involved with care during both the ante natal and post natal period, and runs the antenatal classes.

Health Visitor

There is a Health Visitor covering both Practices. She is a qualified nurse employed by University of Morecambe Bay Foundation Trust. The Health Visiting Service provides advice about preventing illness with particular emphasis on the development of infants and pre-school children.
Working very closely with the other members of the Primary Care Team, the Health Visitor can be contacted by telephoning 015394 47625

Family Planning

All the doctors at the Practice provide family planning services. Dr Stonehouse and Dr O'Sullivan will fit coils and contraceptive implants.

Child Health Developmental Clinics

Clinics in Child Health Development are available to our Practice patients. We strongly advise that all the children in our Practice are screened regularly for health, growth and development. Details can be obtained from the Surgery or Health Visitor.

Cervical Smears

All ladies between the ages of 25 and 64 will be invited to attend for regular cervical smears, usually every 3 to 5 years. Appointments for cervical smears can be made with our nurses Angela Coburn and Sally Riley.

Minor Surgery

A wide range of minor surgical procedures are available from both sites. Any of the doctors will be happy to discuss more specific problems in more detail with you.

Chaperone Policy

A chaperone will be offered to all patients (male or female) undergoing an intimate examination irrespective of gender of the doctor or nurse. The GP/Nurse is at liberty to ask a chaperone to be present if they feel the situation warrants it. The presence of a chaperone can be to safeguard both doctor and patient.
